No wonder the Italian supercar maker is readying a replacement for its four door sedan. Maserati’s plans actually go quite a lot further than that but the Quattroporte is the one we’re interested in right now.

Why? Because it’s about to get some new engines from what is, by most accounts, the best place in the world for such things.

Recently Fiat announced that they’re going to shift some 50 million euro worth of cash to the engineers at Ferrari so that they can develop a couple of extra engines.

Naturally, we’re not allowed to know what these engines are but we don’t expect them to be making any two, three or four cylinder engines anytime soon.

Maserati Quattroporte

The Prancing Horse doesn’t really go along well with that kind of powerplant and, at the moment, most speculation is aimed at a new V6 and new V8.

Seems like old news but here’s the twist. Just about everybody is expecting them to add a supercharger (maybe two) or some turbochargers to the equation.

That’s how the V6 is expected to produce more than 420 horsepower and the V8 should go well beyond the 500 marker.

That sounds tempting but there’s more. Alongside the new Quattroporte, Maserati will use these engines in the next generation of the GranTurismo and the new Levante.

And, as most of us, are still taking the previous information in, at least one of these new engines could be used by Fiat in new flagship Alfa Romeo models.

What is a secret, or rather used to be a secret, is the true name the DBS successor would wear. That was recently unveiled in a very… British kind of way.

It all happened at the UK’s royal jubilee bank holiday but it had nothing to do with the actual event, the dates simply coincided.

The new Aston Martin Vanquish was spotted during transport when, rather carelessly, somebody in charge left the container open.

Whoever had a keen eye and happened to walk by the transporter would’ve easily noticed. Unfortunately for Aston Martin, among those who glanced at the new name was an editor for Car magazine.

Not only did he snap a picture of the new badge on the back of the Aston Martin V12 coupe, he actually went on to video the back of the car as he closed in on the name.

In other Aston Martin DBS successor news it seems that most reports see the British company debut the new Vanquish at the Pebble Beach event.

That’s scheduled for just over two months away from now which may seem like quite the soon affair. The only justification behind that is to be found at Aston Martin themselves.

Toyota, Lexus overlords, have announced that their luxury division is already working on a followup model to their so far only supercar.

2011 Lexus LF-A

The news of this Lexus LF-A successor come via AutoGuide magazine who’ve managed to get it all from a source inside Toyota.

Details are slim but the bottom line on the new Lexus hypercar is that it will be offering more on just about all fronts.

That seems right, supercars are always supposed to be at the cutting edge somehow. The only concern is that the LF-A couldn’t really keep up with all its main rivals.

Maybe the new car will, which means we can look forward to up to well over 600 horsepower, clever gearbox tech, a suspension setup developed by the Klingons and an anime designed body.

The mix sounds pretty interesting but there’s one detail that’s a bit of a concern. Just like the original Lexus LF-A the price seems out of proportion.

Word has it that the Lexus LF-As follow-up will have a price tag that sits around the million dollar mark, give or take a few thousand.

I’m one of the guys who didn’t get the price of the original and apart from the exclusivity or the geek appeal couldn’t justify it.

Having said that, the million dollar mark of the new model seems like an even bigger nuisance to me. Perhaps we need to fill in the blanks before making any statements on that.

It’s an amazing vehicle and a true rival for the Ferrari 458 and anything else you may consider a supercar.

That may be the case but in terms of road cars, McLaren is considered relevant for having made the legendary F1.

Well good news for nostalgia addicts, McLaren will soon make a successor to that F1 model.

The same nostalgia addicts might however be a little disappointed as they find that part if its charm will have disappeared.

Though Gordon Murray claims the design of the F1 was never built for top speed purposes, that 240 mph figure was of enormous impact.

Now however, McLaren claim that while they’re building an F1 successor hypercar but it won’t get to be such a long way ahead in terms of top speed.

Handling, cornering and all other aspects of performance will however be legendary.

The top speed of the McLaren F1 successor couldn’t keep “tradition” for a very simple reason, the Bugatti Veyron SS is a pain in the rear to beat.

This new car will however make an enormous difference in terms of technology. That’s the most important promise Ron Dennis is promising us.

Sure, it’s a bit of a step back in terms of statements of just a couple years ago when the British company’s designer was bashing Bugatti but let’s just be happy the new car is around the corner.

By the way, the release of the new car is scheduled for May of this year so that’s quite amazing.

This new model is likely to be called the Cabrera but we’re still not sure about that term. Remember, the Aventador was called the Jota until it was in the very late stages of development.

Getting back to the baby Lamborghini, Car and Driver sat down with the company’s CEO Stephan Winkelmann and managed to squeeze some details about it out of him.

There’s some good news and some bad ones mixed in the findings but overall the Gallardo’s successor seems awfully interesting.

The design, that fascinating feat of every Lambo will be a complete revolution. Given Lamborghini’s current school of design that seems tempting.

On the performance and drivetrain side however things aren’t quite so much fun. No new engine is offered, we’ll get a variation of the 5.0 liter V10 engine.

In the Gallardo’s successor however it should develop somewhere around 600 horsepower and be connected to a new dual clutch automatic gearbox.

The bad news is that the manual dies, the good news is that the new automatic will be a very modern one and no longer feel outdated as it does in most Gallardo versions.

Where the bad news comes in is with the fact that the new Gallardo will be developed alongside the Audi R8 (again) only this time it will share even more components with it.

This probably means they’ll share the gearbox. Lamborghini don’t have a dual clutch option and Audi’s DSG system is pretty capable.
