In Japan, the Mercedes-Maybach S 680 takes center stage with a special one-off edition of the V12-powered luxury car, which has just 50 units in the world; 10 percent of which is 5 cars only, in the Asian country, sold at a hot price.
As a reminder, the Mercedes-Maybach V12 Edition was officially released in September of 2025, and it is considered one of the best luxury sedans in its class.
With such a small number available in Japan, it would not be surprising if the carmaker ends up using some form of lottery to decide who`s the lucky winner of such an extraordinary model.
What really sets the V12 Edition apart, though, is the exterior finish. The sedan uses a dual-tone paint combination with Manufaktur Olive covering the upper body sections and Obsidian Black applied to the lower areas.
High-Tech Silver pinstripes run along the bodywork as well, joining the usual bright elements and the Maybach-typical 20-inch alloy wheels. The paint process itself is unusually involved. Completing it takes up to 10 days, which is about double the time needed for a regular Maybach vehicle.
There is also a 24-karat inlay in the design, paired to a V-shaped pattern that highlights the luxury sedan`s V1232 engine installed under the massive grille. It could be a veiled allusion, although the term subtle may not be appropriate to be employed in this situation.
The interior of the cabin of the Mercedes-Maybach V12 Edition is luxurious as any other Maybach. It has Nappa leather on the steering wheel and the headliner, a combination of Manufaktur Saddle Brown and Black is used. Besides, the plaque with the number serves to remind that it is not a typical S-Class derivative, and the Maybach logo on the headrests makes it even more obvious who the manufacturer is.
Regarding the power under the hood, this special Maybach is equipped with a huge V12 twin-turbo 6.0 liter, with 621 horsepower and 900 Nm of torque. That will give a zero-100 km/h sprint of 4.3 seconds. It is quite fast among large luxury sedans. Not appallingly quick on paper, however.
With regard to pricing, the model costs at least 53.99 million yen in Japan that can be compared to $343,140 in the United States.
In comparison, the base S 680 has a price of $244,400 in the United States. The difference is not small. It is yet to be determined whether customers in Japan will struggle over the five cars or just look at them from afar.
