Opel is currently testing out its next generation Astra, but the German based automaker has also been busy developing the OPC version of the Astra.
The upcoming Opel Astra OPC will reportedly drop the four-cylinder 2.0-litre engine rated at 277 hp in favour of a smaller and more efficient 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol unit capable of producing somewhere around 280 hp. The vehicle will probably be offered with a front wheel drive layout.
The hot hatch could also be lighter than its predecessor, losing almost 150 kg, thanks to the use of lightweight materials carried over from the Opel Astra OPC Extreme Concept that was presented in March this year at the Geneva Motor Show.
The regular Opel Astra is expected to be unveiled in 2016 and the OPC version is set to make public debut in 2017. There’s still no word on pricing.
