Ford has just announced the updates regarding the brand-new 2026 Explorer EV lineup in Europe, the model coming with an improved battery, more range, and a special Explorer edition.

The battery updates concern the Standard Range variant, which now comes with a stronger motor, new tech gizmos, and a limited-run variant which is called Explorer Collection.

This sits inside a wider European push. Ford has already moved away from long-running mainstream nameplates such as the Fiesta and Focus, leaning instead on electrified products, including the Puma EV, as well as the Explorer and Capri, both of which are built on Volkswagen Group’s MEB underpinnings. The Explorer EV, in that context, shares its family tree with the Volkswagen ID.4, ID.5, Skoda Enyaq, and Audi Q4 e-tron.

The mechanical headline concerns the Standard Range model. It involves an LFP battery (Lithium Iron Phosphate), with an upgraded electric motor that is capable to deliver 17% more mile range – meaning 444 km/276 miles on a single charge; the output also rises from 190 ps, while torque now stands at 258 lb-ft of torque, or 350 Nm of torque. Ford also quotes a run to 62 mph in eight seconds flat.

There is more than hardware involved here. New driver-assistance and usability features are being added as well, including Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control with Traffic Light Recognition, Reversing Assist, Trained Park Assist, Driver State Assist, and a standard one-pedal drive mode. That is a fairly broad sweep of changes, actually, not just a battery story.

Ford is also fitting Pro Power Onboard, allowing the Explorer to serve as a power source for accessories at up to 2.3 kW. A new Travel Pack joins the list, too. On the cabin tech side, the SUV gets the SYNC Move infotainment system running Android-based software through a 14.6-inch movable screen, with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto included.

Then there is the visual side of the update. Ford has created the Explorer Collection as part of the Ford Collection limited series. The special edition features a standout Cactus Grey paint job as well as 20-inch Satin Black alloy wheels, front and rear skid plates, black roof, and some interesting graphics on the rear pillars and doors.

Stepping inside the cabin, changes are noticeable, too. The Explorer Collection uses a Black Onyx interior, broken up by orange accents on the outer seat areas, the lower soundbar, and the seatbelts. The seats also receive a bespoke 2D knit insert, while the dashboard and center console get a black-and-orange speckled treatment.

Ford had already outlined major upgrades back in January for the Explorer EV and Capri, including a new battery choice and a more powerful motor for Standard Range versions. A few days later, the Puma and Puma Gen-E also gained revisions, such as a revised battery design for extra range and the addition of BlueCruise. So this Explorer update is part of a larger pattern, not an isolated move.
