Land Rover is turning 70 this year and wants to mark this important event by launching a special edition in the United Kingdom. It is called the 2018 Land Rover Defender Works Edition and comes with a powerful engine with worthy performance figures.
The 2018 Land Rover Defender Works V8 70th Edition will be built in just 150 examples and available in both 90 and 110 wheelbases.
Tim Hannig, Director of Jaguar Land Rover Classic, explains the reintroduction of the Defender in the “Works” shape, after ceasing production of the model back in 2016:
“The idea of reintroducing a V8 Defender was something we were discussing as far back as 2014, when we were still building the Defender in Solihull. We knew the demand was there for a powerful and fast Defender; the Land Rover authenticity is the ultimate finishing touch for discerning clients purchasing these collector’s edition Defenders.”
For such a massive off-roader, Land Rover had to introduce a massive engine underneath its skin. In this case, we are looking at a 5.0-liter naturally-aspirated engine with a huge 400 horsepower and 515 Nm of torque. The engine is hooked to a high-performance ZF eight-speed automatic transmission with all-wheel drive layout and two-speed transfer box, coming with heavy-duty differentials front and rear.
This allows an acceleration from standstill to 100 km/h in a staggering 5.6 seconsd, at a limited speed of 170 km/h. So, despite the massive size, this lad here is extremely fast, powerful and aerodynamic.
Other important features that ensure the aforementioned exquisite characteristics refer to 335mm front discs with four-piston calipers, and 300mm rear discs with the same four-piston calipers. There are also the 18-inch diamond-turned Sawtooth alloy wheels with 265/65 all-terrain tires.
Inside, the cabin is fitted with Windsor leather trim, Land Rover infotainment system, Recaro bucket seats, while the exterior stands out from the crowd with machined aluminum door handles and fuel cap, satin paint finishes or bi-LED lighting package.
