Under the Hood: Power from a Colombo V12

Even the engine of the 1964 Ferrari 275 GTB/C Speciale is of a rare breed, the car coming with a 3.3-liter Colombo V112, which is a masterpiece that delivers a staggering 300 horsepower. The mill is hooked to a five-speed manual transmission, ensuring an exhilarating driving experience. It also represents the company`s commitment to craftsmanship and performance.

Limited Production Masterpiece

Built between 1964 and 1965, the 1964 Ferrari 275 GTB/C Speciale was a limited edition of just three models. This makes it even more special than other classics from the same period, especially its super-lightweight aluminum bodywork and special 213/Comp dry-sump engine with no less than six Weber carburetors.

The exterior of this classic also features a 250 LM exhaust system with side pipes or outside aluminum fuel filler cap which was especially built for swift pit stops during racing. The interior is equipped with GTO-style aluminum bucket seats. And if you were wondering about the special fuel filler for quick fuelling during racing, then read on.

Historical Pursuit: Le Mans and Beyond

The 1964 Ferrari 275 GTB/C Speciale was built in only three units and was initially developed to race at the Le Mans against its old rival Ford, back in the 60`s. At first, the car was denied homologation by FIA due to weight considerations. However, after long discussions, a compromise was reached between both parties, allowing just one unit to compete at Le Mans in 1965. This particular unit which came third, had chassis number 06885. On the other hand, our specimen, 06701, was destined only for the track and had a long history until it reached our attention.

Ownership from One Country to Another

The first owner of the 06701 displayed here was Pietro Ferraro from Italy, who bought the car in May 1965 and changed its color into Grigio Scurro Metalizatto. Other owners followed over the years, like Colonel E.B. Wilson of London, or Michel Pobrejeski of Boulogne-Billancourt. During the later`s ownership, the car went again through some modifications at the exterior as well as under the hood. Michel also changed its color to a red paint job.

Restoration and Preservation

Next in ownership was Ferrari collector Brandon Wang who took the 06701 unit to different historic events such as the International Historic Festival at Goodwood or the Tour Auto, in 1997. After being restored and adorned in silver and grey color paint and appearing in other events like the FCA National Concours in Los Angeles in 2002, the car moved to its new owner, Leslie Wexner in 2014 who further maintained this classic as a genuine automotive icon.

Auction for Upcoming Ferrari Collectors

As stated at the beginning of this article, the 1964 Ferrari 275 GTB/C Speciale will be represented by Mecum Auctions at the Kissimmee 2024 event, which is the world`s largest collector car auction, and is rumored to come with an auctioned nine-figure price tag. The car`s present vibrant red hue adds more value to the car.

Final Thoughts

1964 Ferrari 275 GTB/C Speciale in its limited production represents a real icon in the classic automotive industry, and this pristine and meticulously-preserved shape, might represent a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for collectors to add it to their unique classic cars collections. Will the 06701 find its worthy owner and continue its legacy as a symbol of Ferrari`s pure breed? We will find out at the upcoming Kissimme 2024 event! So, stay tuned and keep close!
