The new Volkswagen Golf R Variant has recently been revealed before making a public debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show.
The Volkswagen Golf R Variant has received revised bumpers, a redesigned grille,18-inch alloy wheels, beefier brakes, a lowered suspension setup, a DCC adaptive damping system, four chrome exhaust tailpipes and a roof-mounted spoiler. The sporty wagon can carry up to 57.2 cubic feet of cargo.
Under the hood sits the same engine found on the standard Golf R hatchback – a turbocharged 2.0-litre TSI engine that produces 296 hp and 280 lb-ft of torque coupled to a six-speed DSG dual-clutch transmission. With this powertrain, the vehicle is able to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 5.1 seconds before hitting a top speed of 250 km/h. Volkswagen’s 4MOTION all-wheel drive is offered as well.
The Volkswagen Golf R Variant has four driving modes: Eco, Normal, Individual and Race. According to official reports, the fuel consumption is rated at 7l/100 km and CO2 emissions stand at 163g/km.
Inside the cabin, the Golf R Variant boasts a three-spoke multi-function steering wheel, automatic air conditioning and sport seats upholstered in a combination of fabric and Alcantara.
The Volkswagen Golf R Variant will go on sale in in the first months of 2015, but no price is quoted.
