The German automaker has confirmed that it has decided to put its Beetle Dune into production in 2016. Based on the Beetle Dune Concept from the 2014 Detroit Motor Show, the car is expected to come in both coupe and convertible versions.
There are few differences between the concept version and the production version. The most notable are the extra 2 inches of ground clearance and 1.1 inch wider track that the production model of Volkswagen Beetle Dune has received, as well as redesigned front and rear ends and some interior upgrades.
The details on the Beetle Dune’s powertrain range have not been disclosed yet. The show car was powered by a 2.0 litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 210 horsepower and 280 Nm of torque, hooked to a six-speed gearbox.
Volkswagen Beetle Dune will be launched in Europe in the early 2016, with price set at 2800 euros over ‘regular’ Beetle hatchback. We still don’t know if the car will hit the US market.
